Ergonomics Consultancy for Facility Design, Production Lines and Capital Projects in Northern Ireland

Good design does not happen by accident. When Ergonomics is integrated from the earliest stages of a project, the result is a working environment that is safer, more efficient and built around the people who use it.

I provide Ergonomics consultancy for organisations developing new facilities, production lines, equipment and products. Whether you need an embedded specialist for a major capital project or targeted input at a specific design stage, I bring chartered Human Factors expertise to help you get the design right - before it is built.

What I Offer

Facility and Production Line Design

Ergonomics input from concept through to final design review, covering workstation layout, task design, operator conditions and system efficiency. I work as part of multidisciplinary project teams to ensure the human element is central to every design decision.

Manufacturing Workstation and Workspace Design

Design-stage input and evaluation of individual workstations and wider working environments, considering posture, reach, force, visibility, environmental conditions and workflow. Applicable to manufacturing, laboratory, office and specialist environments.

Equipment and Tooling Design Evaluation

Assessment of proposed or existing equipment, jigs, tools and fixtures against Ergonomics principles and relevant standards. I identify risk early, challenge design decisions where needed and propose practical solutions that protect operators without compromising productivity.

Human Factors Engineering for R&D Programmes

Specialist Ergonomics and Human Factors consultancy embedded within research and technology programmes. "I have direct experience contributing to major aerospace R&D initiatives, working within multidisciplinary teams to apply Ergonomics and human-centred design principles throughout complex technical projects. Find out more about my Human Factors Engineering for R&D Programmes work."

Design Reviews and Milestone Support

Structured Ergonomics input at key project milestones - concept, preliminary design, detailed design and final design review. I can track, manage and report on Ergonomics KPIs where required.

Standards and Compliance Guidance

Practical guidance on applying relevant international and European standards to your design process, including ISO 11228, EN 1005, ISO 11226, ISO 6385, BS EN 614 and ISO 9241. I help you understand what the standards require and how to demonstrate compliance through your design decisions.

Embedded Ergonomist for Capital Projects

Available to join your project team on a contract basis, integrating directly with your engineers, architects and operations staff. This model works particularly well for capital projects, new facility builds and advanced manufacturing programmes where sustained Ergonomics input is needed across a project lifecycle.

Experience That Counts

My design consultancy work is grounded in direct experience on major international projects. At Airbus UK, I worked as an embedded Ergonomics Specialist on two significant programmes: an initial Human Factors Engineering role on a research and technology programme, and a subsequent contract on the A321 wing production facility ramp-up; a complex, high-profile project developing an entirely new production line.

Across both engagements I worked as a core design team member alongside engineers, architects, project managers, operations and EHS professionals. My responsibilities spanned conceptual design through to Final Design Review, covering architectural design input, tooling and equipment specifications, KPI management and the development of a bespoke digital Ergonomics tracker dashboard adopted site-wide.

This experience gives me a practical understanding of what it takes to integrate Ergonomics effectively within large-scale, multidisciplinary engineering environments and how to influence design decisions at the right moment to achieve the best outcomes.

Early-Stage Ergonomics: Identifying Design Issues Before Build

I recently contributed to this webinar with Prodtex, exploring how Ergonomics can be applied to production line and facility design and how identifying issues early avoids the costly changes that come with getting it wrong later.
